Aimee and Brad’s was one of our favorite weddings so far this year. They are such a fun and beautiful couple, and we had such a great time being a part of their big day! Their wedding was held in Montgomery, Texas at Olde Dobbin Station.
From the Bride:
Brad and I met back in April 2007 through mutual friends. My best friend from high school was dating one of his best friends from high school. I actually did not like her boyfriend at all, so I was not interested in potentially dating any of his friends… Lol. I didn’t give him the time of day at first. Luckily, Brad was persistent and after a few weeks, I decided to let him take me out on a date. Like wild fire, we were immediately into each other, and we spent the entire summer together. From then on, we were inseparable. In fact, we count our anniversary as the date of our first date. 8 years later, that day fell on a Saturday – our wedding day.
Four years into our relationship, Brad took me to a resort in Playa del Carmen. It was my first time in Mexico. I kept thinking to myself as we packed for the trip that this would be the perfect time for a proposal, but I just wasn’t 100% sure. Just in case, I made sure to get my nails done before hand : ) When we arrived at the resort, the weather forecast was nothing but rain for our first few days there. We spent the first day in the hot tub with other couples on their honeymoons talking about relationships, weddings, and planning for the future, all while covering our daquiris and margaritas from the rainfall. At one point, the rain finally let up and Brad mentioned that he wanted to walk down to see the beach for the first time since our arrival. I jumped up and we headed down to the sand. As soon as we got there and saw the blue water, the rain started up again. So I took off running ahead of him to a covered cabana. When I turned around to see if he ran with me, he was right behind me, down on one knee, with a beautiful diamond ring in his hands. I thought he would at least be able to get some words out at that point, but I immediately could see how nervous he was. Me, a babbling idiot, I just kept asking if he was serious until he finally stood up, took my hands, and said “Yes! I’m definitely serious.” We hugged, and cried, and all that mushy stuff. It was an amazing start to one of the most memorable trips I’ve ever been on with him.
We had a pretty long engagement – 4 more years after that (I started and completed law school in there somewhere), but we knew from that very first summer that there was no rush. This thing was going to happen eventually. : )
We did our wedding registry as a honeymoon fund, which sent us to Greece (Athens, Santorini, and Mykonos) for two amazing weeks this past July.
