Kelley and Stephen had a beautiful city wedding at the JW Marriott in downtown Houston, and we had the great pleasure of documenting the big day. Read below to see what the bride had to say about how she and Stephen met, the proposal, and a few fun facts about the couple!
Stephen and I actually met for the very first time in 2007 – he vaguely remembers, I vividly do! We were at a homecoming game tailgate in Atlanta. He asked me for my number but never used it. I honestly forgot I had given my number to him. Fast forward a year, we ran into each other at a house party. I noticed a guy staring at me, but to this day, we don’t know if he was staring because he recognized me or staring because he was interested in getting to know me. I’m going to go with the latter.
Fast forward a couple more years, my best friend and I were at a Memorial Day party. Two of our guy friends also happened to be there. Apparently, they were working on a master plan during the party. One of the guys suggested that my friend meet a guy named Stephen, and the other guy suggested another guy named Stephen for me. After talking to my friend, I realized he was talking about the same Stephen I had met just a few years earlier! I was kind of hesitant, so I told him to let me think about it and see if our paths cross naturally. Low and behold, exactly a month later, they did. I was a guest at a wedding of my childhood friend, and Stephen was the Best Man. We went on our first date just a few days after the wedding.
I had been working away on planning a surprise 30th birthday celebration for Stephen. When we arrived at the venue and everyone yelled, “Surprise!”, Stephen looked like he really wasn’t excited. My heart sank a little, but I figured it was all the attention. Unbeknownst to me, he knew about the party the whole time. He and my best friend were in cahoots the entire time and flipped the script on me! After socializing for a few minutes, Stephen began his thank you speech. Before I could realize what was going on, he was down on one knee asking me to marry him. It still doesn’t seem real, even as I’m typing this up.
I’m not sure what readers will find interesting, but we both share the same favorite TV show, Martin, and we’re always quoting and making references to the show. Some would call us a bit obsessed with the show. We don’t “complete each other’s sentences,” but we’re usually thinking the same thing. We have a crazy, wild, but fun and loving Boston terrier named Roscoe. We’re currently renovating a home built in 1930, all the while living between our parents’ houses. And last but not least, I know it’s cliché to say, but I just can’t imagine enjoying life as much I do without Stephen. He’s definitely made my world a better place and he’s one of the sweetest people you’ll ever meet.
